Our family celebrated one year in Deutschland on July 27th! We toasted with our bowls of apple crisp and vanilla ice cream. The apples were donated by the 10 apple trees that we have been harvesting since moving to our "July" home. This coming Wednesday, we are moving to our next home for the year. (I think our girls will be okay with giving up the daily chore of picking up apples from the ground before they go bad.) We are very thankful for a month of serving others around the Kandern community and finding time to spend as a family. Next week, Rick will be attending the "Summer Institute" with our sending mission and we will begin welcoming families that have been gone for the summer or new families to "BFA". Families blessed us by having us over for dinner when we first arrived last year. We look forward to doing the same for new families this year. Last Monday, we were blessed to be invited to dinner with a Dutch family that we have gotten to know since last year. Their daughter will be a sophmore this year at BFA and was in my small group last year.
After a year in Germany, we are so thankful for the many opportunities that the Lord has shown us His faithfulness and we have been able to grow in our faith as we put our trust in Him. Our girls have surprised us at how quickly they have adapted to a new culture and many homes. One of our daughters said recently, that she is afraid when she returns to the US that she won't like it as much. We are learning that even though we have had many "earthly" homes in the past year, we can know that our true home and citizenship is in heaven. We can also have peace because the Lord is our Rock and our Refuge and we can trust in His plans to have us here. Our prayer is that our days here will be used for the Lord as we serve Him!
