Walking to France

Bon Jour! Hallo!  Hello!

Friday evening, our family needed to make a trip to a town that would have stores where Kaylin could get pants.  (Much to her dislike, I must add.  Kaylin and trying on clothes, do not agree.)  So to make it a little more exciting for the kids, we chose the town where there is a walking bridge between Germany and France.  We enjoyed walking over to France, snapping a few photos in front of the German and French flag and then walking back.  Thankfully, there was a boat to watch dock and many swans "a swimming" to help the entertainment level rise.  We then walked to a "fast food" restaurant to buy kebabs.  I think I need more practice with ordering because before we knew it we had french fries ON the sandwich, french fries with the chicken and two more orders of french fries.  Our family had a french fry feast!  The kids were delighted.  Our cholesterol levels were not!

Also on Friday, I had the pleasure of spending the morning at one of the dorms helping prepare meals for the weekend.  Stefanie (originally from South Africa) and her husband were serving in Ethiopia until last year.  They are now dorm parents at a girls dorm for BFA.  It is such a delight to get to know Stefanie, learn some great cooking skills and be encouraged in my faith.

Sunday evening, I was able to go to one of the dorms where one of the girls from my small group lives.  Her mom had come to visit for the weekend from Italy.  It was great to get to know her mom and help make dinner for Isa's birthday.  After dinner, her dorm "sisters" did their dorm birthday tradition and Isa was drenched with 14 buckets of water.  I am glad I don't live in the dorms.  :)

We are thankful for the blessing of Skype!  Receiving phone calls and having video/phone calls are a joy!  Thanks to our friends the Pittmans, we were able to Skype with Chelsea (our dear friend and former neighbor) after her baptism at FBC yesterday.  It is such a blessing to not feel too far away when you can see people you love!

Tomorrow is the last day of the first quarter for B.F.A.  It seems like 1st quarter has flown by.  Rick is doing a great job of learning all the things that he needs to know to input grades, help students that are struggling, write tests, do lesson plans and how to keep the students interested.  He said he is playing a game today to help his Apologetics classes review information.  Kaylin still thinks his students would like to do a craft to keep them interested.  Not sure how that can be incorporated but we love her interest in helping him.  :)  She suggested I should throw candy to any girl in my small group that is quiet.  Does this give you a hint of the things Kaylin likes?

Tuesday and Thursday I have lunch with girls from my small group.  I am praying these one on one times helps me get to know them better and know how to encourage them more.  Praying that whatever else I do this week will give glory to our God!  I need to get back to studying German.

Hugs and love,  Melissa
