I am excited because we have a three day weekend. A little jealousy roused it's ugly head when I knew everyone in the USA had Labor Day off earlier this month. Now, I can enjoy "German Unification Day" on Monday and be thankful Germany is "unified". :)
The most beautiful phrase I have learned lately in German is "Schone Wochenende". I heard these words many times on Fridays from people but finally had them translated by a kind friend. The Germans say them to wish you a good weekend. I think as fast as the pace has been since school started, the weekends are such a nice part of being here because it is a little more relaxed.
As a family, we will go do some exploring around the region on Saturday. It is such a blessing that there is so much rich history and beautiful sights so close by. The fun part of exploring is asking your kids what they want to do. Kaylin asked if we could find if they have "Subway" somewhere in Germany and Lauren asked if we could go down a fast roller coaster ride. Not quite what I had in mind. I can't wait to share what we really do.
I am sorry I haven't updated our blog lately. It always amazes me how fast the days goes by here.
Here are some recent high lights to catch you all up:
1. Kaylin enjoyed a Middle School Overnight at a near-by Youth Hostel last Friday evening. We are thankful she had time to get to know girls better and have a great time with them. It helps her be able to see blessings of being here in Germany.
2. Rick is still enjoying teaching after the first month. Much lesson planning and preparing to be done each night but our family is thankful that he can do his planning at home so we can see him. We hear through our niece and nephew that the students are liking his classes.
3. Lauren's high light from last week was exploring a nearby town called "Baden Weiler" with Rick and I. She was thrilled to run around castle ruins. I loved the beautiful sunset.
4. I have continued to go to German class each week and my language acquistion is still painful. If only my mind would remember what I learned. :) The people are so nice in Kandern. They are patient and smile in any of my attempts. My favorite people to greet on the street are the elderly. They enjoy being greeted and smile at our dog and children. It has also been so pleasant to wait at the bus stop for Kaylin and Lauren and be able to speak to the "German" moms.
5. Leading the freshman small group has been challenging for me on Wednesday evenings. I really enjoy their enthusiasm but it has been difficult to steer the conversations to more important topics. Please pray for their hearts to desire to come to learn and grow. One of the girls originally from Holland that goes to BFA shared Wednesday how much Athletes in Actions Sports Camp in Holland have impacted her life spiritually. GO AIA! :)
I know I could think of many more things to share but it's already 11:15 p.m and I am headed to France tomorrow. (Sounds wonderful, huh? Well, it's not to be a tourist. :) It's to go grocery shopping) It's funny all the things you can get in France that you can't get in Germany. We haven't found a good dill pickle for Kaylin though. She told me the other night as I was tucking her in that she just doesn't know how she will be able to wait until she goes back to the US to eat a good pickle. :) What the Lord will use to shape and refine us is very surprising! She will learn patience and contentment being here! Prayerfully, me too!

Ahhhh.... so magnificient of God! What a delight to watch the colors from the castle tower!
As we were walking to church I just had to take a picture of how Kaylin found a way to attach her favorite stuffed animal to her purse. Let them stay young forever. :)
What a treat to have our niece Chloe and nephew Anthony over for lunch last Sunday while Karen and Vince were out of town.
We made it! We finally made the hike up to one of the highest hills in town. The view is spectaculor! It's a great privilege to live in such a pretty area.
